How to Reach Sri Lanka

By Air (Most Convenient)

The easiest and most common way to reach Sri Lanka is by air.

  • Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) – Located near Colombo, this is Sri Lanka’s main international airport.
  • It is well-connected to major cities across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, with direct flights from:
  • India (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, etc.)
  • Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand
  • Dubai, Qatar, Oman
  • UK, Germany, Australia (some seasonal or connecting flights)

SriLankan Airlines is the national carrier, while other airlines like Air India, Indigo, Emirates, and Qatar Airways also operate regular services.

By Sea (Limited Options)

While passenger ferry services are limited, occasional cruise ships do dock at Colombo, Galle, and Trincomalee. However, these are mostly part of luxury cruise tours and not regular public transport.

There have been proposals for ferry services from India (Rameswaram/Tuticorin to Talaimannar), but they are not consistently operational as of now.

Entry Requirement

  • Visa: Most nationalities require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter Sri Lanka. It can be easily applied for online before travel.

Best Time to Visit Thailand

  • November to February – Peak Tourist Season: Weather is cool and dry, especially in the northern and central regions. This is the most popular time for travel, with ideal conditions for visiting Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi. Major festivals like Loy Krathong and New Year celebrations also occur during this time. It’s also the busiest and most expensive season.
  • March to May – Hot Season: Temperatures rise sharply, especially in inland areas where it can exceed 40°C. The heat can be intense, but coastal areas remain more pleasant with sea breezes. The Thai New Year, Songkran (mid-April), is celebrated with nationwide water fights and cultural activities.
  • June to October – Rainy/Monsoon Season: This season brings frequent rain, especially in the afternoons and evenings. While travel is still possible, some beach destinations may be affected by heavy showers. However, the countryside becomes lush and green, and travel costs are lower due to fewer tourists. Eastern islands like Koh Samui are relatively drier during this time.
